The indoor navigation system is being provided by Connexient. With the company’s MediNav Digital Wayfinder technology, patients will be able to receive a wayfinding link inside a text-based appointment reminder delivered to their smartphone. The link will provider navigation instructions from their home to the hospital and to the location of their appointment in the Pooler campus.
MediNav provides turn-by-turn indoor navigation, voice prompts, off-route notifications, visual landmark references, and other features such as MeetMe, Parking Planner, and Find My Car.
"St. Joseph's/Candler has reinvented and redefined the entire healthcare experience by utilizing mobile technology to meet the needs and convenience of our patients and families," said Nolan Hennessee, VP/CIO at St. Joseph's/Candler.
"We wanted to use our new Pooler location as the showcase for this exciting new Indoor GPS technology. We are excited to be the first health system in our region to offer an indoor "blue dot" turn-by-turn navigation experience," Hennessee added.
Hackensack Meridian Health Deploys MediNav at Its 17 Hospitals
Connexient also recently partnered with Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) to deploy the MediNav indoor navigation system at HMH’s 17 hospitals.
HMH initially deployed MediNav at Hackensack University Medical Center and plans to launch the technology at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and eventually at all hospitals in the network.
The HMH network has more than 500 patient care locations throughout New Jersey, including ambulatory care centers, surgery centers, home health services, long-term care and assisted living communities, ambulance services, air medical transportation, fitness and wellness centers, rehabilitation centers, urgent care centers and physician practice locations. HMH has more than 34,100 team members and 6,500 physicians.
Additionally, Connexient’s MediNav will be integrated with Epic’s MyChart within the HMH Well mobile application, which gives users access to lab results, appointment information, current medications, and immunization history on their mobile device. This collaboration will create home-to-appointment experience for patients.
“By integrating indoor mapping and navigation with MyChart’s appointment information, we are empowering patients to more easily find their way to their appointments. This will reduce late arrivals to appointments, and create a great patient experience,” said HMH VP of Hospitality Services Kunle Modupe.
“Taking existing applications and combining them in a new and powerful way allows Hackensack Meridian Health to continue to leverage our technology solutions to further advance the patient experience throughout the health care process at Hackensack Meridian Health,’’ said HMH EVP/CIO David Reis.
“We are deeply committed to enhancing the experience of our patients and their families. We are constantly scanning the horizon for new technology to help us make care as convenient as possible for our patients,’’ added HMH CEO Robert Garrett.
