- GE Healthcare Unveils RPM Solution to Detect Patient Deterioration
Currently, there is no standard treatment or approved medication for MCI, but state guidelines recommend cognitive interventions that regularly stimulate the brain to support healthy function.
Neuroglee Connect, the remote patient monitoring technology, offers continuous treatments for patients with MCI, including activities that can measure performance through timely assessments and screen for deterioration.
“Nuvance Health’s neurologists will use a digital platform to remotely monitor patients and keep them mentally active with consistent and intense brain activities,” Paul Wright, MD, senior vice president and system chair of the Neuroscience Institute at Nuvance Health, said in a press release “Patients will use an iPad to participate in medically-tested activities to stimulate their brains.”
The digital platform will give patients access to brain-stimulating activities, like playing games and learning new skills. Additionally, the platform provides memory compensation training and reminiscing through the uploading and viewing of personal photographs and videos to trigger memories.
Neurologists will have access to the activity data through a digital dashboard and be able to make ongoing therapy modifications based on real-world data.
The at-home technology will also offer educational material regarding healthy lifestyle habits, such as eating well, exercising, and sleeping to improve patient outcomes.
“The caregiver is also involved as they are a major contributing factor to a patient’s well-being,” said Wright. “Our neurologists will support their efforts at home because we now have an objective way to continuously track each patient’s condition over time. We can then use the information to inform appropriate, individualized care.”
To ensure caregiver engagement, care partners will be given access to patient data through the platform to monitor treatment progress. In addition, tools will be provided to care partners that offer education, support, and informational material for identifying and overcoming MCI-related anxiety and stress.
So far, many Nuvance Health patients with MCI have adopted the remote monitoring program during the initial pilot phase. The new remote patient monitoring technology will be available for patients at Nuvance Health Neuroscience Institute neurology practices in New York and Connecticut.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, more health systems have been leaning on remote patient monitoring to support at-home care opportunities.
In May, Wise Health System created an at-home hospital program with Biofourmis, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI)-based remote patient monitoring technology
The Biofourmis Hospital@Home solution, which includes clinical care tools and non-clinical services such as program management and revenue cycle management, aims to deliver inpatient-level care for patients with post-acute and chronic conditions.
Also, launching the program enabled Wise Health System to participate in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ Acute Hospital at Home program.
