Masimo Acquires NantHealth’s Connected Care Assets for $47.25M

January 21, 2020 - Masimo, a global leader in noninvasive monitoring technologies and connectivity tools for hospitals, recently announced a definitive agreement to acquire the connected care assets from California-based NantHealth for $47.25 million.

NantHealth’s connected care assets, which include the DCX device connectivity, VCX patient vitals software, HBox connectivity hub, and Shuttle interface cable, provide medical device interoperability to hospitals and health system.

Masimo will leverage NantHealth’s connected care suite to further their goal of helping hospitals and health systems “improve the continuum of great care through hospital automation, connectivity, and innovative noninvasive monitoring technologies,” Masimo officials highlighted in the announcement.

“Not only does Connected Care immediately increase our customer footprint but also provides us with products which complement our current portfolio,” explained Joe Kiani, founder, chairman, and CEO of Masimo. “As a result, we are very excited to welcome the Connected Care’s talented team to Masimo and look forward to realizing our vision together.”

Kiani emphasized that one of the main priorities of this acquisition is to decrease clinician overload and reduce the possibility of any errors of omission.

“Through connectivity, predictive algorithms, and decision support, we hope to improve the continuum of great care,” Kiani said. “The connectivity assets we are acquiring are completely in line with our mission as they will help accelerate our internal growth initiatives in the area.”

For NantHealth, the acquisition of its connected care suite will help the health IT company to innovate in other fields.

“Our decision to sell the Connected Care business enables us to focus on accelerating growth for our NaviNet and Eviti SaaS solutions, our data and molecular analytics capabilities, and pursue other strategically assigned goal,” Patrick Soon-Shiong, MBBCh, MSc, FRCS, chief executive officer and chairman of NantHealth board stated in the announcement.

The health IT companies expect to close the deal by the first quarter of 2020.
