- Healthcare Cloud Data Migration Challenges Organizations
- Avoiding the Top 3 Clinical Data Migration Mistakes
"Tier4 embraces the continued partnership with Actifio," Tier4 President and CEO Tino Mantella said in a statement. "Tier4 dedicates time to stay informed on game-changing technology solutions so we can better serve our clients.”
The companies reportedly see value in their partnership because of the way their services can work together. Actifio uses its technology to virtualize data, while Teir4 advises organizations on how to leverage different advanced IT infrastructure tools.
Actifio works with cloud and virtualization technologies to help organizations get the most out of their data center storage solutions.
Actifio’s data virtualization technology has assisted organizations in leveraging the cloud to deduplicate copied data. Data is copied because unstructured analytics, migration, and backup solutions are copying and archiving data independently. This uncoordinated process results in multiple copies of the same data, taking up valuable storage space.
Healthcare organizations cannot afford to fill up their servers with copied data as they continue to generate large amounts of new data via Internet of Thins (IoT) and connected medical devices.
Copied data can occur during cloud migration. Data is often copied for the move from one cloud service provider to another. However, the data may not be deduplicated when the migration process is complete, which can leave it in the data center, taking up space.
Actifio uses virtualization to address copy data issues reducing redundant data and decreasing hardware and operational expenses for data warehouses. Similar to other virtualization solutions (e.g., VDI, VMI), copy data virtualization operates off of the ‘golden’ copy model, meaning there is only one physical copy.
The golden copy can spawn infinite virtual copies, but the changes to virtual copies are all logged on the dynamic golden copy and deleted. IT staff outlines specific terms for data capture, managing how often data is captured and which resources are captured.
Actifio has also collaborated with major cloud service providers Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure over the past year to bring more cloud compatibility to its virtualization solutions.
Back in November, Actifio made its OnVault solution available on AWS as part of its hybrid cloud data management solution. OnVault enables organizations to migrate to AWS faster and easier by extending legacy data center applications and infrastructure to give users instant access to archived data.
The expense and inconvenience of legacy data duplication solutions fuel the need for tools like OnVault.
OnVault on AWS encourages the acceleration of big data analytics by combining cloud-based long-term data retention, which gives users open access to archived data.
The technology features testability and data recovery. It also allows for leveraging of archived data to run analytics on Amazon RedShift without the need for another data migration or redundant data copy.
Actifio has been working for most of 2017 to offer organizations, including healthcare entities, options to improve data centers and cloud-based infrastructure
In January, Actifio announced its compatibility of Actifio Sky for Microsoft Azure. The solution assists organizations with their disaster recovery across their data centers and cloud-based infrastructure.
Actifio’s data virtualization platform leverages Microsoft Azure for their mission-critical applications. The copy data virtualization platform speeds up the migration process, accelerating hybrid cloud adoption for test data provisioning for application development, backup, disaster recovery, instant recovery, data migration, long-term retention or analytics.
Healthcare organizations need to consider the types of tools available for cloud migration as they are faced with the possibility of undetected duplicated data. Deduplication is an important step in successful cloud migration that needs to be addressed.
