- ACN Diabetes Patients to Use Healthcare Blockchain to Improve Care
The latest step in that blockchain journey is ACN’s decision to use a healthcare blockchain network, the Diabetes Care Administration Network, to manage the care of their 25,000 type 2 diabetes patients.
For the network, ACN is using the Care-Wallet application provided by its existing blockchain partner Solve.Care.
“What the application does is it allows for the user to have access to Care.Wallet. The foundation of Care.Wallet is on the blockchain. It's part of that ledger system that allows for those transactions to happen and to be documented. Care.Wallet is accessible through the Google Store, the Apple Store, and it really is that gateway into the blockchain technology and the capabilities,” Berger explained.
“The ledger allows us the ability to have the secure transactions, as well as the ability for that historical record of that transaction. That's the foundation of our desire to go down this path,” she added.
ACN’s role in the network is to provide concierge care management and to support care coordinators to improve outcomes for participating patients.
“We're sponsoring the Care.Wallet for our providers, and we sponsor it on behalf of our patients as it relates to the Diabetes Care Network,” Berger said.
“Our role is really convener of the different stakeholders to allow for the program to be rolled out, to measure the success and impact of the program, and to look for opportunities beyond Arizona Care Network,” she added.
Berger related that ACN has several blockchain projects in the pipeline and is working with its value-based partners targeting the patient and the member experience.
ACN is invested resources in designing and rolling out the initial phases of a Care.Wallet diabetes care program.
“There's a lot of time that we spend in workflow, design, and discussions around the network roadmap. We invest a lot of time in how we're going to collaborate on the partnership and how we're going to support our different partners,” she added.
ACN, Solve.Care Are Working with BI on Network
ACN and Solve.Care are collaborating with Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals (BI) in launching the network, which is scheduled to go live by year’s end.
“We are proud to join Solve.Care and the Arizona Care Network to provide patients and providers with additional solutions to help address diabetes and cardiovascular disease,” said Graham Goodrich, BI’s vice president for cardiometabolic marketing.
“Recent changes to diabetes treatment recommendations have prioritized managing cardiovascular risk, and this program will help ensure both patients and providers are proactively addressing life-threatening cardiovascular complications associated with this chronic condition,” Goodrich noted.
Solve.Care CEO Pradeep Goel observed: “The Diabetes Care Administration Network will help bridge a knowledge gap by providing a platform which offers vital information on diabetes and cardiovascular diseases in an easily accessible manner. This is invaluable in the healthcare ecosystem as it allows patients to gain a better understanding of their disease while also coordinating their care needs.”
