- Improving the usability of healthcare IT infrastructure and other health IT technology, such as electronic health records (EHRs), is one solution to reduce clinician burnout, according to a new report by the National Academy of Medicine.

Health IT should be as user-friendly as possible to reduce burnout. EHR vendors, other health IT companies, and healthcare organizations should employ IT solutions that reduce documentation requirements and automate non-essential activities, the report recommended

Federal regulators and health IT vendors need to collaborate to build the health IT infrastructure and processes that allow shared decision-making between physicians and patients, the academy urged.
