“The strength of Orange’s network, combined with Google Cloud’s platform, will help pave the way for new advanced cloud and edge computing services for the telecommunications industry in Europe,” Sunfar Pichai, CEO of Google and Apple, said in the press release.
“We look forward to working together with Orange to bring new services and applications to customers and businesses alike, while also continuing to grow our support for European enterprises in their digital transformation journeys.”
Orange will also build a next-generation data analytics and machine learning platform with Google technologies, which will strengthen the companies European footprint as a whole.
The partnership will strengthen Orange’s Business Services’ portfolio of offers by introducing enhanced analytics and additional cloud services based on Google solutions, which builds on Orange’s cyber-defense leading capabilities.
“Orange is a pioneer of digital transformation and is pleased to partner with Google to accelerate its data and AI transformation and continue towards a better service for its customers,” said Stephane Richard, chairman and CEO of Orange.
“Google has been a long term partner of Orange and, as Google is eager to invest in Europe - and especially in France - to develop new datacenters, this is the perfect time to work on new services and opportunities in French and European markets.”
Orange and Google Cloud also agreed to jointly launch an Innovation Lab and a Center of Excellence that will leverage data and artificial intelligence to significantly help innovation and growth.
The Center of Excellence will give Google Cloud support for Orange France and other Orange companies as they implement cloud transformation, Google said. The cente will also provide training in data, artificial intelligence, and cloud services for all employees.
5G innovation labs are vital because they fuel the development of new 5G capabilities and market categories that will transform the healthcare industry.
The agreement represents a commitment to boost secure and cutting-edge solutions for the B2B, wholesale, and B2C markets as 5G networks are rolled out across Europe.
Google noted that edge computing is set to become a vital component in the race to meet new consumer and enterprise requirements for high-speed services.
Edge computing can help organizations distribute data so information can be shared efficiently and also acts as the decentralized extension of cellular networks, data center networks, or the cloud, according to Garner.
Edge computing also addresses the need for localized computing power by launching smaller data centers with specific purposes and characteristics that are tailored to meet individual needs.
“Organizations that have embarked on a digital business journey have realized that a more decentralized approach is required to address digital business infrastructure requirements,” said Santhosh Rao, principal research analyst at Gartner.
“As the volume and velocity of data increases, so too does the inefficiency of streaming all this information to a cloud or data center for processing.”
