As part of the partnership, GE Healthcare stated that it will provide its perspective as a leading global medical technology and digital solutions innovator in connected cardiovascular care.
Specifically, the company’s Edison platform, which was launched in 2018, forms the technological basis for the company’s AI offerings that are a crucial part of its advanced cardiac technology.
Clinicians use the platform in the diagnosis and treatment of over 145 million heart conditions annually. Overall, it is designed to help achieve greater efficiency, improve patient outcomes, and increase access to care.
“We are eager to help shape the heart care pathway – from early detection to treatment to follow-up at home – by combining our expertise in AI and digital technologies with top clinical leadership to advance risk prediction and decision-making support,” Eigil Samset, chief technology scientist for cardiology solutions at GE Healthcare, said in the announcement.
“Ultimately, this will enable precision health, which is doing the right thing, at the right time for every patient, at scale – with the ultimate goal to provide better outcomes, delivered to more people, more cost efficiently,” Samset continued.
Overall, the three main drivers of digital transformation that will impact care are migration towards virtual care, increased remote monitoring, and AI-driven care. This includes image interpretation, risk prediction, and improved care decision-making.
A GE Healthcare spokesperson explained that its product development strength and the clinical depth of the Consortium’s academic and technology partners will define impact challenges, develop AI models, and put research results to practice through implementation.

GE Healthcare has been heavily involved in developing AI tools and platforms for the healthcare space over the past few years.
Most recently, the company launched the an industry-first artificial intelligence (AI) offering for cardiac imaging on the Venue and Venue Go.
The offering, called the Venue Fit, is the smallest system in GE’s Venue Family. The system features a touchscreen, scanning tools, and a small footprint designed to fit in tight spaces generally found in point-of-care settings.
The Venue Fit and associated AI were introduced at a time when clinicians relied on point-of-care ultrasounds to combat over 127 million COVID-19 cases worldwide.
