Cybernet Releases New Healthcare Mobile Workstation PC

- Cybernet Manufacturing announced the release of its latest healthcare mobile workstation, powered by three hot-swap batteries.

The CyberMed NB24 is a lightweight 24” computer clinicians can easily carry or push around on a non-powered cart. The computers power themselves, as well as connected peripherals including barcode readers, printers, and scanners.

The PC delivers up to 60 watts of power through a DC power output jack. This allows clinicians and other healthcare professionals to move and use the computer without ever plugging it in. The three batteries last for 16 hours total.

The CyberMed NB24 provides secure access with a fingerprint reader, internal RFID, and Imprivata SSO.

The CyberMed NB24 is EHR-ready, fan less, and waterproof with an antimicrobial coating. The PC is compatible with many popular EHR solutions including Epic, Cerner, and PointClickCare.

“The medical cart computers have an antimicrobial housing reducing the spread of microbes,” Cybernet stated. “This helps stop the spread of hospital-borne illnesses and is optimal in sterile environments. These all-in-one medical cart PCs are also medically certified to meet the requirements of EN60601-1 for electrical and radiation emissions to be safe for near patient use.”

The computers are also designed to handle rigorous chemical cleanings without damaging the PC.

The computer runs on the Skylake 6th generation Intel Core i3/i5/i7 processor series. The device contains an integrated chipset and runs Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, or Linux.

The CyberMed NB24 comes with a number of USB and legacy ports including four USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports and an RS232/422/485 port (with an option to expand to four COM ports).

Organizations have the option to purchase the PCs with solid state drives (SSDs), ranging from 120GB up to 1TB, and 8GB up to 32GB of DDR4 memory. The SSDs can easily be removed and replaced through a window in the back as needed, eliminating the need to call in a specialist or take apart the entire computer.

Healthcare organizations are turning to mobile PCs that can easily be moved around as clinicians tend to patients. Using carts and lightweight desktops let clinicians spend more time with patients and less time configuring applications and logging in and out of PCs.

Southern New Hampshire Health (SNHH) equips its staff with wireless desktops running virtual desktops on the hyper-converged environment. Clinicians can take their desktop with them to every patient and only need to sign in to the environment once.

SNHH Desktop Configuration Engineer Scot Tymowicz explained to HITInfrastrcutre.com that clinicians only have to tap their badge on any desktop to gain access to their personal virtual desktop, making login times much faster and allowing clinicians to spend more time with the patients.

 “We have a bunch of wheeled computers that are on all the clinical floors, emergency room, ICU, etc., and they’re completely wireless,” said Tymowicz. “They have batteries in the bottom of the carts and they’re physical desktops like you would find at any desk. The nursing staff and the doctors use these and move around the organization, go into a patient’s room, and do their job.”

Deploying wireless PCs in a virtualized environment allows clinicians at SNHH to maintain their personal digital workspace on their device as they move from room to room throughout a shift.

The virtualized environment also lets them log in and out of systems quickly in a HIPAA compliant manner. This helps them spend more time interacting with the patient or gaining critical lifesaving information in an emergency room or ICU.
